Aghanistan

Words spoken to me as we left Afghanistan in the midst of crisis and violence.

I expressed my feelings of guilt for abandoning civilians after enduring, for a few days, the threats they are facing daily. The Afghans encouraged me to just accomplish my own little mission: tell the story.

It happened before. The same words were in the eyes of victims in Somalia, Colombia, Kenya. People, though thousands of miles apart, though coming from a different background and culture, they share a certain calmness, knowing they cannot change their fate.
